Seed and place participants

Assign participants to their starting positions in the bracket before the tournament begins.

Placement is the step between accepting registrations and starting the tournament. It determines which participant starts in which slot of the bracket or group. Getting placement right ensures fair matchups from round one.

Where to find it

Projects → [Your Project] → [Tournament] → Structure → Placement

Step by step

  1. Make sure participants are registered and accepted. Only accepted participants can be placed. See Manage registrations if you still have pending applications.
  2. If check-in is enabled, filter to show only checked-in participants before placing. See Check-in.
  3. Navigate to Structure → Placement.
  4. Choose a placement mode:
    • Manual: drag and drop participants into specific bracket slots. Use this when seeding order matters (e.g. top seed vs. bottom seed in opposite halves).
    • Random: participants are assigned to slots randomly. Quick and fair for casual events.
    • Seeded by ranking: participants are ordered by an existing ranking or score and distributed according to standard seeding rules.
  5. Assign all participants to their slots.
  6. Click Confirm placement.

The bracket is now populated and ready to run.

Managing final standings

After the tournament concludes, navigate to Structure → Final Standing to set official final results for any participants who did not reach a clearly determined final position (e.g. participants who were disqualified or withdrew mid-event).

What happens next

With participants placed, you can schedule match times and then publish and go live. During the event, use Live operations to monitor match progress and intervene if needed.
